Purpose of writers groups!
The most powerful motivation of the writer is the network of support that encourages and enriches them.
How many times do you hear successful authors thank family, friends, love ones and so it goes on. But how many mention writers groups. The place they found professionals to critique, edit and publish that genre. Then there’s the many hundreds of – how to – articles that teach – saving time and money on courses and schooling.
This mountain of information and help is generally distributed by group members, friends of members or friend’s acquaintances or contacts.
There are writers groups meet in person and critique a chapter of yours twice a year, once a monthly or the enthusiasts such as my YA group, meet fortnightly. There are on-line writers groups found sites such as Facebook. Some have monthly meetings where the gathered members discuss issues with many professionals. Whatever your needs, there’s a group out there for everyone. A budding writer or author can be involved as much as they feel necessary. It will depend on the level of learning required. But don’t forget, what you take, give back. Others in turn, will benefit from your experience and knowledge.
So to me the purpose of a writers group is a support network of like mined souls that empower the talents within the fold and call you friend. Under their wing the writer can sit and do nothing as a duck on a pond or soar like an eagle into the public parade.
Are you in a group, if not I invite you to join one today. Even ducks need friends.
