DIY Indie Author gives Vanity Publisher the cold shoulder!
From an article I ended up on an eBook publishing site offering to send out a FREE publishing guide. To keep up with any new ideas filled form in to get the FREE copy.
Last night the phone rang, yes at dinner time, how rude.
Surprised this person introduced the publishing company she worked for, as a subsidiary of Penguin.
Okay, so why ring this hour unless they are a Vanity publisher, drumming up money from unsuspected newbies’ to this business.
Oh yes, me, once bitten twice shy! Never again!
Even when I informed this Vanity self-publisher that I currently was an Indie author publisher, and unless they were a Traditional publisher, I wasn’t interested. The tele sales got irritated and informed me that unless I was a best-selling author, a Traditional publisher WILL NEVER PICK ME UP.
I smiled at this and commented; if Stephanie Mayer who wrote Twilight had listened to this kind of talk, she’d never have become a best seller.
Even then she insisted to persist with me. She informed me that even though Indie published, they could do a better job for me. That they are affiliated with Random House and Penguin and there eBooks go global through Amazon etc.
Excuse me, I am with Amazon. Aren’t they global?
Oh well she finally gave up and we amicably said our goodbyes.
So please, don’t be sucked in by these tele marketers who rudely insinuate they are HOOKED UP with the big boys and that you are a nobody from noseville. There are, many big named authors who started out by self-publishing their first novel.
Be fussy, be diligent in your research and when you receive that call, be ready to say, ‘I don’t want you as my publisher.’
Don’t let a publisher choose you, YOU chose them!
From us nobody writers/authors out there, we say NO to Xlibris eBooks Publishing.
For a cheaper option, Become a DIY publisher and Indie publish.
Suggest contacting Book Cover Café and ask for Anthony. He’ll set you right!
Or wait for that Big Traditional Publisher to pick you up … believe it will happen and who knows
It Could be YOU!
If not, don’t take second best, DIY publish and enjoy total control
And for those interested, I never did receive my FREE publishing guide.
